BEFORE THE EVENT
Please note that we will NOT be supplying any food, drink or energy gels during this event.
The majority of the route is off-road and over public footpaths and public bridleways, so trail shoes would be ideal but not essential (check the weather).
Please check the weather and pack your kit bag accordingly (rain jacket, change of clothes/shoes, sunscreen, etc). Do not bring or leave any valuables in your kit bag unattended, if you do, you do so at your own risk!
Ensure you bring a charged mobile phone, cash/cards, food, drink and any medication you may require during the day.
Your kit bag will be available at every pub stop, but please ensure you run with your mobile phone, your medication and any food or drink you may require between each leg.
If you can, please clearly label your kit bag with your name and mobile number. Tie labels and pens will be available at CHECK-IN.
NEW OPTIONAL BUS PICK-UP
There will be a bus pickup at 09:00 (or just after) at Towngate (near Halfords Newport). The bus will not be there long, so please be prompt. The bus can only take 74 people. The bus will then continue its journey to Egypt Point Cowes and if you make yourself seen, will pick up along the way. If you miss this bus, there should be the regular No.1 bus along soon after, but you will have to walk to Egypt Point from wherever you get off.
CHECK-IN AND EVENT T-SHIRTS
Please arrive at Egypt Point Cowes between 09:30 and 10:00.
Then CHECK-IN and collect your pre-ordered event T-shirt. The CHECK-IN Crew will NOT swap any T-shirts. You MUST collect your own T-shirt. No one will be allowed to collect another person’s T-shirt. If you are NOT taking part in the event you may come and collect your own T-shirt but you MUST inform the CHECK-IN Crew that you will NOT be running and therefore NOT be part of the event on the day.
EVENT BUSES
Between 09:30 and 10:00 there will be a LADIES bus and a MENS bus, where you can change into your T-shirt.
Between 10:00 and 10:20 the buses will become the FRONT bus and the REAR bus.
The FRONT bus will be for those runners that wish to run each leg a bit faster than others and it will begin its journey to the next pub stop when the last person is approximately 1 mile away or at the CHECK-IN Crews discretion.
The REAR bus will be for everyone else and will not leave each pub stop until the last person has arrived and is either getting on the bus or beginning the next leg on foot.
You can either carry your kit bag or store it on either of the buses.
You are welcome to ride on the buses between any of the legs instead of running them.
SUPPORT VEHICLES AND BACKMARKER
We have a number of support vehicles that will move along the route (where they can) and be available to assist runners in need and if required offer them a lift to the next pub stop. You must NOT start a leg if you don’t intend on finishing it. The support vehicles will move along the route once the backmarker has passed them. If lost, in any difficulty or in case of an emergency, please ring 07972 845140, who will advise on what action to take.
GROUP PHOTO & SAFETY BRIEFING
At 10:25 we will take a couple of group photos. Then everyone will be asked to be quiet and to carefully listen to the important safety briefing. This will include an explanation of how the event works, the CHECK-IN system at each pub stop, any dangers and risks to be aware of and to show the markings (chalk arrows and blobs of sawdust) you will be following as you journey from north to south. The Great NorthSouth R#n will begin at 10:30.
LEG 1 TIME AND PACE CUTOFF
There is an average 14 minute mile pace cutoff for the first leg (approx 7.5 miles in 1h45m). Anyone slower than this pace is required to get the bus to the first pub stop.
CHECKING IN AT EVERY PUB STOP
The first thing you MUST do when you arrive at a pub stop is CHECK-IN, this is so we know you have completed that leg!
If you arrive at any pub stop before the buses and CHECK-IN Crew you must wait to CHECK-IN before you start the next leg or leave to go home!
If you wish to exit the event at a pub stop, you MUST inform the CHECK-IN Crew. If you wish to exit the event before reaching the next pub stop, you MUST ring 07972 845140 to let me know!
SEE YOU THERE
We can’t wait to see you all on the morning of Saturday 21st September!
Don’t forget “It’s a run not a race!!”. Please also keep in mind it’s a challenging and long route, but with the added bonus of being around lots of friendly supportive people and beautiful terrain and scenery. So remember to take in the sights, take photos, chat to new people and most importantly look after each other!
